Phones
Mobile clients are developed using the Java ME (MIDP 2.0) platform. The application adapts to the specific phones screen resolution and hard and software support.
Locations
GPS locations come from either the internal or external GPS receiver connected through bluetooh.
Media
Recording and playback of media (like 3gp, jpeg, png, wav, mp3) is done using the best options a phone offers.
Platform
Client applications - web and mobile - uniformly connect to services of the 7scenes platform. The services are modular and can integrate third-party services like for instance mapping and location services.
Communication
Communication is XML and JSON based and uses both HTTP and TCP/IP. Services can be multi-user and support events.
GIS
The platform uses a PostgreSQL/ PostGIS database. All geo-data can be used in different projecties like WGS84 (default) or RD. Exchange formats include GPX, Google KML or OGC WFS.
Maps
The OGC WMS standard is supported and uses different mapping providers. Directly or using specific maplayers with UMN MapServer+PostGIS. Tiling standards as used by Google Maps and OpenStreetMap are supported. Mobile clients can take advantage of a mini-tiling service.
Open Source
The service platform uses several open source products such as Java, Apache (Server+Tomcat), PostgreSQL/PostGIS, ImageMagick, UMN Map- Server, GeoTools, OpenLayers, JUnit, EHCache.
