Many different scenes have been created in 7scenes around so many different subjects. Now a more unusual subject has been added to this ever expanding list: garbage.
It all came to life during the Innovation Festival in Kortrijk, Belgium. In October, the town was plunged into the festival. You simply could not escape from it. With it’s inviting title ‘WHAT IF’, the festival wants to open a dialogue with the public at large on new approaches and possibilities in the area of interior design, no longer with the accent on the artistic and aesthetic aspects, but as a way of thinking and designing innovatively that will contribute to more sustainable production and consumption processes.
GameLab was the title of the program organized by EW32 for students of the Flanders HO-West, institute for design-education. During the week a varied program offered students in depth information about garbage, recycling and changing polluting behavior of humans into sustainable lifestyles.
Towards the final of the challenge, 7scenes offered a full day of presentations, hand-on prototyping and project presentations. Under the keywords Think, Design, Make, Present students were excited to transform the game concepts they had developed and fit them into the 7scenesplatform as effective as possible.
After fast and razorsharp brainstorming, investigating game genres and decisionmaking, trial versions were made in 7scenes. Immediate testing and analysing initial results led to a finetuning process to achieve a working game version. All 11 teams managed to build a working demo version in 7scenes within one day, a truly remarkable achievement!
Concluding the day, presentations formed a general rehearsal for the final of the challenge two days later in which the winning team would be drawn to be developed.
