Below you find a breakdown of all the genres available in this package.

Sightseeing
The Sightseeing genre is often used for Scenes that encourage discovery.

  • A free format where players can go into any direction and visit any place they want at any time.
  • This genre is used in situations where it is not necessarily important that players visit all places.

Storyline
The Storyline genre is especially useful for building up a narrative over a series of locations. Think of heritage guided tours for instance.

  • Takes players along a specific number of places, in a fixed order.
  • Every next location blinks so players know where to go to.

Mystery tour
This is a treasure hunt format. Great if you like to add some playfulness to your scene!

  • Places have a specific sequence.
  • Players discover places one by one. Only when you visit a place the next one is revealed.
  • Every next location blinks so players know where to go to.

Games

With this package you create true mobile multi-player experiences based on role-playing, collecting & trading, solving challenges or hunting treasures.

package-game

The genres below give the possibility to play in teams, compete in events, see your competitors and their progress live on your mobile and to virtually interact when you are close to other players.

Adventure
An Adventure is a multi-player roleplaying game genre in which teams compete to score as many points as possible within game time. Here are the rules:

  • Up to 4 roles can be configured. Each team has a role and needs to complete its own mission.
  • Players can acquire up to 4 different skills by picking them up at a place or by earning them by completing tasks. Players get stronger with skills and could need them to open tasks.
  • When players come near each other they enter into a virtual confrontation (battle). The total value of all the skills collected determines if you wins.
  • The visibility of task places can be linked to different roles.

Collect & Trade
In a Collect and Trade teams have to collect a specific combination of objects. The team that fulfills the assignment first wins. Here are the rules:

  • A total of 4 assignments can be configured and linked to the different teams. Each assignment can have 8 different objects.
  • Players can get objects by picking them up at a place or by earning them by completing tasks.
  • Objects can be exchanged when players are near each other.
  • Players can see which objects other players have collected, so they know who to trade with.

Secret Trail
A Secret Trail is a treasure hunt passing by different locations with the goal of solving a secret. A Secret Trail is won by solving the secret as quick as possible or scoring the most amount of points within game time. Here are the rules:

  • This game is based on setting out tasks at places, in a strict order.
  • On either completing or skipping a task (not scoring any points) or getting a hint a new location is revealed.

Free Play
Free Play is a genre that is used when you want players to freely discover locations. A team wins by performing tasks the fastest. Here are the rules:

  • There is no specific order in which players need to activate places. They can wander from place to place.

Web-player
Add a web-player to a team for distributed scenes. The web-player plays online and sees the team’s activity in real-time on a map. A web-player can have a strategic role, look up info on the web and answer questions that have first been unlocked by their mobile team mate. (Not available in Secret Trail)

Indoor

Design an indoor experience in which players navigate on a custom floorplan of a building and unlock places by scanning QR codes.

package-indoor

Creating indoor Scenes is just as easy as creating outdoor Scenes!

Mapping
When creating an Indoor Scene you follow 3 simple steps:

  • Select the building in question
  • Add a floor-plan of the building
  • Start adding Places to the map.

You can choose any floor-plan you like and even design one yourself. On mobile phones it will behave exactly the same as a Google Map; you can pan and zoom as you are accustomed to.

QR codes to activate Places
As GPS positioning is not accurate inside of buildings, players can simply tap Places to open them. Additionally, you can export QR images for all Places in your Scene, which you can hang on the right locations. Scanning a QR code with the camera option in the app, automatically opens the linked place.

Maps

With our mapping tools you can upload (your own) custom maps, so players can navigate on your map next to Google Maps! Especially useful to enhance the storytelling of your Scene.

package-maps

Just think of all the options: old historic city maps, self-designed game maps, branded maps, future architecture maps, demographic info maps, transportation maps, and many many more.

How it works

  • Using your admin tools, simply upload any Geo TIFF image. We recommend creating your Geo TIFF with QGis, an open source geo tool for which we provide a step-by-step tutorial.
  • The maps are added to your channel so anyone creating Scenes in your channel can select a map to add to his or her Scene.
  • You start adding Places to your custom and Google map. You can link each Place explicitly to each map.
  • On a smartphone: the Google Map shows all Places, also those on the custom map. However, these Places have a special icon, so you know they are linked to the other map. When you activate a Place on the custom map, it will automatically switch to that map. On the custom map you only see Places that are linked to this map. The idea behind this interaction is that you can go from the ‘real’ world to another world.
  • Custom maps can be added to any genre.

WebQuest

With WebQuest it is possible to play Scenes fully online! It’s a special format, very suitable for classrooms, to play on the web, not on smart phones. Players will have a location-based game experience right from their computers.

package-webquest

The Webquest genres have all of the same features as the Tours package, but doesn’t allow playing on smart phones. The advantage is that you do not have to have handle the logistics, financial administration and insurance of (rented) smartphones. An additional advantage is that you can set up Scenes that can cover a much larger area that could ever be walked.

Please check out the Tours package to learn more about the available formats.
