‘Best Scene in Town’ is a mobile design challenge that explores how we can interact with the city through our mobile phones. In ‘Best Scene in Town’ student teams enter a series of hands-on creative sessions to design, develop and ultimately pilot their mobile concepts for a live audience with the 7scenes platform. ‘Best Scene in Town’ challenges are big and small, but always push the rules of mobile interaction. The challenge has been organized with several partners for different city themes over the past years and is focussed on the new young professional – the university student.
In 2010 and 2011 we organised the challenge at PICNIC Festival. Mixed student teams from China, U.S.A and The Netherlands worked together in the months preceding the festival to come up with new mobile concepts. Participants came from Parsons – The New School for Design (NYC, US), MIT – (CA, US), Hong Kong Design Institute (Hong Kong, China), University of Amsterdam (Amsterdam, NL), Hogeschool van Amsterdam (Amsterdam, NL) and Utrecht University (Utrecht, NL). The winning team had the chance to place their game at the PICNIC Festival with a selected crowd.
Winner of the 2011 challenge was the game 'Adhoc Architects'. You can find videos of the challenge in 2010 and '11 on the right. For more information check out the 'Best Scene in Town website and the links on the right.
In 2012 we will be organising the challenge once more. With the PICNIC festival and Amsterdam Innovation Motor the challenge has found great partners in realizing the ambition of connecting international universities with each other.
