The world is a classroom
Education is changing. Slowly but surely ICT is becoming more important in the classroom. Studying without a computer is nowadays hard to imagine. Pupils and students of the present are even called the ‘digital generation’. And so they are used to games and they all own a smartphone.
Because of mobile technologies, learning does not necessarily have to take place inside of the classroom anymore. They make possible new ways of learning that take place outside of the school, in the real world, on location.
7scenes can be used to create what is called a mobile learning curriculum. The everyday environment can suddenly be used as a classroom for a lot of different subjects like history, arts & culture, biology, maths and architecture.
What are the advantages of using 7scenes?
- Your subject content becomes more relevant and personal for the pupil, because it is set in the everyday world. For example: instead of only learning about the middle ages in class, pupils can experience for themselves how this time-period has influenced their own city. Imaginative scenarios can thus be simulated in an authentic context.
- The platform is easy to use so that not only teachers, but especially students can make tours. Students can therefore easily create their own educational experience.
- Sharing and publishing a tour or game is easy. Thus it becomes possible to re-use resources or an entire tour, to make adjustments or to share it with another class or colleague.
- Time and location independent learning becomes possible: resources can be accessed online at all times, outside of opening hours!
- It is possible to adapt your lessons to the way students normally use media. You can for example integrate social media and the taking of photo’s into your tours to make them more interesting, interactive and engaging.
Best Scene in Town
‘Best Scene in Town’ is a mobile design challenge that explores how we can interact with the city through our mobile phones. In ‘Best Scene in Town’ student teams enter a series of hands-on creative sessions to design, develop and ultimately pilot their mobile concepts for a live audience with the 7scenes platform.
‘Best Scene in Town’ challenges are big and small, but always push the rules of mobile interaction. The challenge has been organized with several partners for different city themes over the last year and is focused at the new young professional – the university student. With the PICNIC festival and Amsterdam Innovation Motor the challenge has found great partners in realizing the ambition of connecting international universities with each other.
